We never mention his kiss or the long conversation we’ve had on our way here.

Seattle greets us with frigid temperatures as soon as we land on Thursday night.

A limo picks us up at the airport and deposits us in front of a luxury hotel twenty-five minutes later.

Our rooms are on the same floor, which I find interesting since I have a hard time to imagine the aristocrat in him agreeing to live not far from the ‘help’.

Although, convenience might’ve tipped the scale in this case.

We split as soon as we walk out of the elevator, and spend the night separately with no communication whatsoever.

I don’t sleep very well although my room has a large bed and all the amenities to make the place hospitable–– plush pillows and blankets, soft, oversized towels, and delicious refreshments.

To put myself together, I spend an hour in the bathroom Friday morning, enjoying every bit of ‘me’ time before I throw my work clothes on and join Remi for a satisfying breakfast.

Our day is booked solid.

We meet with gallery owners, collectors, and business people who don’t belong to the art world and–– my guess is, are leads for his other business.

Come dinner time, I find myself parked at a table with these particular people. By now, I’ve traded my business skirt suit for a nice dress and heels as well as a cheerful attitude.

The men who keep us company speak and live money, wealth being the common denominator around the table.

With a few exceptions, they are in their thirties and forties.

I’m the only woman at the table, and that little detail alone tells me that this must be one of those complimentary dinners meant to attract people and introduce them to the Night of the Diamonds concept.

It dawns on me that I’ve replaced Kiara at this sort of event, and Remi’s request to join him might’ve had nothing to do with art.

In fact, I’m fairly certain that the only reason he has brought me here was to entice these people and give them a taste of what would be like to become a part of Remi’s inner circle.

I do my best to make conversation and be pleasant and friendly toward them. Their words never leave the realm of politeness, and they’re never inappropriate, although their eyes are bolder than their words, roving all over me.

My cleavage and legs catch their attention, but their gestures toward me never cross the line.

I wear red.

A sleeveless scarlet dress with a wrap-up front and matching heels. My hair is pulled together into a sleek chignon at the back of my neck.

I receive compliments and quite a few stares, but none of the guests make a pass at me. Part of the reason is Remi, who sends plenty of signals that I’m off-limits.

The evening begins to draw to an end when I excuse myself, say good night, and leave the restaurant, heading to my room.

I use the keycard, slide the door open, and walk in.

I turn a lamp on, set my phone, and purse on a side table and sink into an armchair.
